STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — A new budget proposal from lawmakers in Raleigh would provide funding for Stanly County for the 2020 Republican National Convention.

Legislators are considering providing Stanly County with an $85,000 grant.
Stanly County is one hour east of Charlotte
The county manager said the funds would be used for emergency response preparation and potentially staging during the convention, which will be held in Charlotte.
“It is my understanding this appropriation is related to emergency response preparation and potential staging during the 2020 RNC event,” Stanly County Manager Andy Lucas told Channel 9 in an email.
Stanly County is the only county receiving funding of this kind in the budget.
The convention is being hosted in Charlotte from Aug. 24-27, 2020.
