‘Thank God, we are all alive’: Shots fired into Charlotte apartment on Christmas morning

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after someone fired shots into a west Charlotte apartment early Christmas morning with 14 people inside, including three children.

The robbery and shooting happened at an apartment complex on Forestbrook Drive, just off Tuckaseegee Road.

Police said the incident started with a robbery in the parking lot. A car was shot into, shattering a rear door passenger window and several bullets went into an apartment.

A woman, who did not want to be identified, was one of the 14 victims. She said it started around 1 a.m. on Christmas.

“My babies were sleeping and all of us got scared once it happened. It’s crazy," the woman said. “Then, once they heard the noise, the bullets and things.”

Authorities said a group of friends were celebrating Christmas in the parking when three men came up demanding their property and opening fire, hitting several cars and apartments.

“We called the police really quick,” the woman said. “We couldn’t wait. It was crazy. I’m afraid right now. It’s scary. I know, but thank God we are all alive. So, I’m blessed for that."

Most of the victims were under the age of 20 and the victim said given the number of young children who live in the complex, she wants to see the suspects arrested.

“Soon, like, I wish they can get caught today,” the woman said. “If they start doing this now, imagine in the future they will be doing the same thing.”

The 21-year-old man who was shot is expected to recover. Police said they are working to determine who the three suspects are.
