Queens University student overcomes adversity to become Paralympic medalist

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In late 2015, Hannah Aspden thought she might never swim again.

The Queens University freshman suffered bouts of dizziness, memory loss, wide ranging symptoms that kept her out of the pool for five months.

Aspden was born without her left leg due to congenital hip disarticulation.

Aspden was later diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder in the middle of training for one of the biggest events of her life.

"I've had a lot of people come up to me and be like 'Oh, I'm so sorry' and all this stuff and I'm like I'm not. This is who I am, this is how God made me and I'm going to make the most of it," Aspden said.
