Arts-centric cafe, small-plates eatery will first debut for revamped NoDa retail center

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A coffeehouse, wine shop and small-plates restaurant with an emphasis on the local arts community is set to open this week in a NoDa strip center that’s been newly renovated and expanded.

The Artisan’s Palate at 1218 E. 36th St. will double as a dining spot and art gallery, with a goal of “engaging all senses,” said Christa Csoka, who is behind the venture.

By day, The Artisan’s Palate will operate as a self-serve establishment that offers a variety of baked goods and pastries. Csoka has collaborated with local roaster Magnolia Coffee Co., which has provided recipes for the craft coffees that’ll be served at the shop. Csoka brought Christine Alter on board as a partner and pastry chef to head the bakery. A native of Germany, Alter specializes in German cakes and cookies, offering vegan and gluten-free options.

“It’ll change personalities at night,” said Csoka, a chef, who received her training at the then-French Culinary Institute in New York City. Her prior background was in business management and HR.

The Artisan’s Palate will first open its coffeeshop and bakery on Wednesday, followed by dinner service that’s expected to be up and running no later than the first of September.
