CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Showmars CEO Dean Peroulas knew early on that restaurants were in his blood. Last week, he took the helm of the Charlotte-based independent restaurant chain — just the third person to lead the company in Showmars’ 36-year history.
But it’s a career path long in the making for Peroulas. He started washing dishes in his family’s restaurant in Roanoke, Virginia, at age nine — perched atop a milk crate. Something about the energy of the restaurant industry spoke to him.
“You learn at a young age whether that is an environment for you or not,” he says.
He earned his degree in hotel and restaurant management from Virginia Tech, before snagging a job with Hyatt Hotels in New Orleans. Peroulas joined Showmars in 1995.
Now, his future plans for the family-friendly restaurant group are focused on leveraging technology and expansion throughout the Carolinas in an increasingly competitive environment.
He spoke with the Charlotte Business Journal about those plans — read that full interview here.
