AVERY COUNTY, N.C. — A small earthquake was recorded in Avery County early Monday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The 2.0 magnitude quake happened just after 3 a.m. about 16 miles west of Boone.
No damage was reported.
Small quakes are relatively common in the Carolinas. There was a report earlier this year of a quake recorded in Wilkes County, and another reported on the North Carolina/South Carolina border in April.
