MATTHEWS, N.C. — Marisa Sharp says she paid Keyo Tiny House $4,000 in October 2018 to build her a tiny home in Matthews. But about a year and a half later Sharp says she still doesn’t have the house or money back.
She told Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke it’s been “extremely” emotional. “Not only the loss of money, but the trust factor. Knowing the [developer] for a year. [He] seemed to be pretty invested in what my dreams were,” she says.
Sophia Apostolopoulus is also suing. She says she gave Keyo $12,000 for a tiny house in June. She says Keyo was supposed to build the home on her granddaughter’s property in Rock Hill. She claims Keyo dug a ditch for the foundation and that’s it. She didn’t want to go on camera, but told Stoogenke she didn’t get a refund, either.
Late last year, Stoogenke reported three other people -- Lindsay Wetzel, Deborah Rivera and Patrick Tobin -- were suing Keyo and its owner, Kelvin Young. They said they put down $4,000 each and didn’t get tiny houses or refunds.
Young’s lawyer said he and Young won’t comment while they’re in litigation.
